Kindermusik at First Baptist Church School of Fine Arts

History of Kindermusik

Founded in Germany during the 1960s, a group of music educators collaborated to create a program for children to experience music in a joyful environment prior to instruction in a formal setting. The program was translated and adapted for American families in the 1970s. Kindermusik was revised in the 1980s to be inclusive of a more culturally diverse audience. Under the direction of Dr. Jonathan Crutchfield, our School of Fine Arts became affiliated and individual instructors licensed to offer Kindermusik in 1997. Veteran educators Laura Cooper and John Echols originally directed the program. Their vision and passion was instrumental in the program's growth and is shared by the present Director and Teachers.

Kindermusik provides music education based on four distinct age groups through Village, Our Time, Imagine That!, and Young Child. Each age group has a curriculum designed to meet the individual needs of these developmental stages. The classes are planned to provide a new experience each semester so that no single child has to repeat a theme. High quality materials are created and revised on an ongoing basis to provide the most current, research-based, process oriented and child centered program that incorporates parents in the interactive learning environment. Parents of homeschool students might be particularly interested in the Young Child curriculum as a music credit. During our spring and fall semesters, each age group follows a 15 week curriculum. Summer Adventures Kamps are offered as a 5-lesson kamp during various weeks of the summer months. The summer kamps are also based on the different developmental stages of babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and school age children through age 5.

Our music educators are licensed professionals who genuinely care about our program and the families in our program. They give 100% of their time, talents, and energy in their classes each week so that our families will have a rewarding, fun learning experience. Our program emphasizes the Kindermusik Foundations of Learning while providing a safe, enjoyable, wonderful time of parent/child bonding. Our Kindermusik ministry also provides us, the faculty, with opportunities to serve the children, parents, and other caregivers that enter our doors on a regular basis. Parking is free and our spacious rooms enhance the safety of our children and provide a comfortable environment for our parents and caregivers. Click here for our Church Campus Map in PDF format.

Each enrollment period is for a full semester - however, we do accept prorated late enrollments- and we offer trial classes if you would like to try a Kindermusik class before making a semester commitment. Multiple classes and locations for each age group are offered Monday through Wednesday for 15 weeks, including mornings, afternoons, and evenings. We hope each interested family will find class times that fit into their busy weekly schedule.  If you do not see a class that will work for you, please contact our director, as new classes are often being added.  Class placements are filled on a first come, first paid basis.
